General Lachlin McIntosh, "an officer of great worth and merit"

General Lachlin McIntosh, born 1727, died 1806. General George Washington said about General McIntosh, "....an Officer of great worth and merit." During the winter of Valley Forge, General Lachlin McIntosh of Georgia commanded the first brigade of the Continental Army. The brigade, which was comprised of North Carolina regiments. McIntosh also commanded General Washington's life guard.

This memorial was erected by the State of Georgia to commemorate the services of Gen. McIntosh and other Georgians in the young republics critical hour of need.
