Princeton Battlefield

On January 3, 1777, General Hugh Mercer met the British army on a battlefield located just west of the Thomas Clark House. Having suffered a significant number of wounds, and having his troops routed, General Mercer sent for General Washington. On the night of January 2, 1777, General Washington marched his troops from Trenton to this battlefield. They fought the British back, causing them to retreat to Nassau Hall, located on the grounds of Princeton University. The British general, seeing the size and strength of Washington's army, abandoned Nassau Hall, leaving 100 soldiers behind to be captured. The pictures below will give you some idea of what you will see when you visit this historical site, but nothing can equal the vastness of the site. It is a must see for anyone who visits the area.

After receiving 14 bayonette wounds, General Hugh Mercer was taken to the Thomas Clark home, located next to the battlefield, where he was tended to for three days before he finally died. Both sides in the conflict took their wounded to this house to be tended to.
