Washington's Rock - New JerseyOn this site along the Watchung mountain range, just over 300 feet above the valley floor, General Washington watched for signs of troop movement by the British army. In those days there were fewer trees, so the view was much less obstructed. From here you can see the New York skyline, 35 miles in the distance. The view is unique and well worth the short drive up the mountain from Highway 22 in Greenbrook, New Jersey. The pictures below will give you some idea of what you can see on a typical summer day. Across the road is a park that is almost forgotten, with the exception of a few folks out walking their dogs. In honor of our Nation's Bicentennial Sherwin and Virginia Drobner donated this 14.5 acre track to expand the park. There are picnic benches along the drive, and it is a peaceful place to rest during a hot summer afternoon. |
